Misión Compartida
I had the privilege of going to Quito, Ecuador as part of KSBJ Mentoring to coach HCJB’s Sharathon, which they call Misión Compartida. Their on-air fundraisers are similar to those in the US with one big exception – they have an open house. This open house includes activities for kids, food trucks, a concert with multiple bands, a dunk tank, and Quichuas (the indigenous people) selling chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, eggs and other items to support the station. These listeners are invited to meet the DJs, watch the event, and bring their donation personally to the station.
Things that have worked well for them is communicating reasons to give and telling the stories of people whose lives have been touched because of the ministry of HCJB. This year I started coaching them on using different perspectives of a story to spice up the breaks. –– Larry Castro
